What the PTA does is create an association between parents, teachers and pupils at Waltham St Lawrence Primary School. We in the PTA know that children learn more and have better lives when everyone in our school community works together to share thoughts and information and work on projects to benefit the children. The PTA has benefited our school by:

  • Paying for the annual insurance for the playing field at £400.00, so this can be utilised by the school.
  • Paying for the transport to and from the leisure centre for years 3 & 4 to enjoy their swimming lessons at a cost of £500.00.
  • Subsidising school trips & sometimes even paying for them completely. Trips include Marwell Zoo, Tate Gallery, Milestone Museum, Ufton Court, Waltham Place Farm and LEGOLAND.
  • We have also paid for many facilities in the School. Recently we have benefited the children by spending over £3400.00 buying items such as the giant playground games, cameras and accessories, and contributing towards the installation of the Teaching Wall in Kestrels Class.

When you join the school you automatically become a member of PTA. You can become an important part of helping to ensure that plans can become a reality. We also welcome your new ideas for the benefit of our children.

How we raise money

Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run and the Summer Fete which is run in conjunction with the other village charities. Some of our most popular events are:

  • Christmas Fayre & Raffle
  • Summer Fete
  • Halloween Disco
  • Movie nights
  • Quiz and Race nights

So you can see there is always something going on. We always try and respond to the children’s requests; it is great to see them having fun at the events or enjoying using a piece of new equipment that the PTA has donated.

We raise money in other ways too. Donations from parents are extremely important. You can donate time, money, items for sale, raffle prizes and auction lots or offers of services and skills.

How money raised recently has been spent
Extras Costs
Contribution to the installation of the Teaching Wall in Kestrels Class £2000.00
KS1 trip to Waltham Place Farm (51 children over 2 days) £331.00
Cameras with accessories and equipment £536.77
Giant indoor/outdoor games £900.00
New sound system £3281.00
Gardening Equipment £157.00

Any support is greatly appreciated and you can do this by offering to help before events or at other times during the year, this support is so valuable. It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you cannot come into school. There are always jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare e.g. wrapping gifts, preparing raffle tickets etc. We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the behind the scenes help that we receive.

You can volunteer to be a Class Representative too. Or you can simply support the AGM and give us your ideas for fundraising events. This is also the time to ask questions or voice your opinion.

You can help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use, everything is potentially valuable to us.

The PTA is an essential part of our school. All parents and carers are members and everyone’s contribution is highly valued. The work of the PTA underpins the whole school. Financial support enables us to create a richer learning environment for our children e.g. the development of the Library and the ICT suite. These could never have been installed so quickly without the incredible support of our PTA. Numerous curriculum resources have been provided which children throughout the school are able to enjoy. The wide variety of social functions, allow us all to get to know one another in a more relaxed setting. The children see their parents and the school staff working together for their benefit. They appreciate this united effort and it adds to their feeling of security. Our school would not be the lively and welcoming learning environment without the enthusiasm, commitment and hard work of the PTA.

The Class Representatives:

Our class representatives undertake a very important role.  There are usually two representatives per class who provide a link between individual classes and parents. The class representatives have always been actively involved in raising funds for the school. We really could not manage without them.

Class Representatives are as follows:

Class Name Name
SKYLARKS Tristi Justice Katrina Sell
RED KITES Susan Baylis Nicola Buekers
KESTRELS Jo Wynn Kate Murphy

We need your support, we welcome new ideas; a helping hand in our events and you can even support us by actively taking part in the events. Please contact us or the School Office if you are interested in joining the vibrant team and making a difference.
