Headteacher's Welcome

It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher of such a vibrant, caring and welcoming village school where children can grow, explore and succeed. Our beautiful surroundings, combined with our strong community values, help create a truly special environment for learning and personal development.

At Waltham St. Lawrence Primary School (WSL) the children are at the heart of every decision we make. We believe that Every Child Matters, and this principle shapes our curriculum, our pastoral care and the culture we strive to build each day. Our aim is to create a happy, safe, stimulating and ambitious learning environment where each child is supported to make excellent progress and achieve their full potential. We work as a united team—staff, pupils, parents and governors—to ensure that every child feels listened to, valued and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Our school values—Peace, Community, Love, Truth and Responsibility—are central to our ethos and define who we are as a community. These values guide the way we behave, the way we treat each other and the expectations we hold for ourselves. We want our children not only to succeed academically, but also to develop creativity, independence, self-confidence, resilience and strong moral character. These qualities, we believe, will sustain them well beyond their primary years.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to supporting whole school development and adapting to the evolving needs of pupils and the community. My experience working alongside different styles of Headteacher has shown me the importance of clear vision, consistent communication and a strong work ethic in effective leadership. I believe in listening carefully to all stakeholders—children, staff, governors, parents and the wider community—ensuring that everyone feels valued, respected and able to contribute to the school's future direction. At the same time, I recognise the importance of making thoughtful and sometimes difficult decisions when they are in the best interests of the children.

Our curriculum at Waltham St. Lawrence Primary School is designed to be engaging, ambitious and bespoke to the needs of our pupils. We champion Quality First Teaching and continually refine our approaches to ensure that learning is inclusive, high quality and inspiring for all children, including those with additional needs. We also place great emphasis on oracy and communication, recognising their importance in an increasingly digital and fast-paced world.

Strong relationships between school and home are essential to our success. We pride ourselves on being an open and approachable school, working closely with families to ensure consistency, understanding and shared ambition for our children. We encourage parents to engage with school life, attend events and speak with staff whenever the need arises.

Together, we celebrate achievements and support children through the challenges that help them grow. As society continues to change rapidly—particularly in the areas of technology, communication and the digital landscape—we remain committed to preparing our pupils for the modern world while staying true to the values and ethos that make WSL unique. We aim to balance innovation with identity, ensuring that our school continues to evolve while maintaining the warm, welcoming community at its core.

I warmly invite you to visit our wonderful school to see firsthand the enthusiasm, curiosity and joy of our children, and to meet the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to help them thrive. I look forward to meeting you and working together to ensure that every child at Waltham St Lawrence Primary School has the opportunity to feel safe, confident and successful.
